At the heart of this boutique’s philosophy is the idea that wellness should feel approachable. The store’s owner, Kris Haas, focuses on simple practices that customers can incorporate into daily life. Haas, a former school teacher, was prompted to launch her wellness business during the pandemic, when many people, especially teachers, were feeling highly stressed, she says.

Botanica Boutique offers a range of products to help folks unwind and manage stress. For instance, the Hack Your Nervous System card deck is designed to help people regulate stress in real time. Each card offers an actionable technique to calm the body and mind, whether through breathing exercises, sensory grounding, movement or mindfulness prompts.

“It gives people something concrete they can actually do,” the shop owner explains. “Sometimes when people are stressed, they don’t know where to begin. These cards make wellness feel accessible.”

That same practical approach extends throughout the store’s carefully curated inventory. Shelves are filled with blank journals and guided notebooks intended to support self-reflection, emotional processing and mental clarity. Journaling, Haas says, can be a powerful antidote to spiraling thoughts and chronic stress. “Writing things down helps people slow their thinking and process what’s happening internally,” she says. “It creates space between you and your worries.”

She also stocks herbal remedies and natural wellness products that soothe the nervous system, including calming supplements such as California poppy (considered a mild sedative) and skullcap (an anti-anxiety herb), along with CBD products. A proprietary, handcrafted botanical tea line with targeted wellness objectives—like sleep, focus and calm—is also in the works. She’ll also soon provide dried herbs, and guidance for customers creating their own personalized blends.

What makes the store distinctive is the meticulous care behind every product selection. Haas personally tests and vets each item before it reaches the shelves, ensuring quality and authenticity. “I’m pretty particular,” she admits. “If you see something here, you know it’s a good product.”

Supporting fellow independent makers is central to the business model. Whenever possible, the owner prioritizes sourcing from women-, BIPOC- and queer-owned businesses, creating a retail ecosystem rooted in community and inclusivity.

That sense of connection extends beyond the retail operation. The shop regularly hosts events designed to foster community, creativity and healing. Gatherings range from monthly tarot- and oracle-card reading nights to collaborative wellness experiences with other local entrepreneurs and practitioners.

“I love creating experiences where people feel seen and nurtured,” the owner says. “There’s magic in bringing people together.”
