Openings
MM by Morimoto, Montclair
World-renowned Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto is bringing his signature culinary artistry to Montclair with MM by Morimoto. The restaurant will open its doors for dinner service on Thursday, July 31, but eager patrons can make reservations on Resy now. The nearly 13,000-square-foot space will blend chef Morimoto’s modern Japanese flair with bold steakhouse influences. In addition to the dining room, there’s a dedicated omakase bar. Menu items will include premium fish flown in from Japan, Japanese and Australian Wagyu, tuna pizza, toro tartare, Wagyu carpaccio and more. A full bar with curated wine, sake, and cocktail selections will also be available. Takeaway sushi boxes will launch shortly after opening.
Bevs, Nutley
The team behind Montclair’s Walnut Street Kitchen has a new project: a beverage bar coming to Nutley’s Bloomfield Avenue. It will be a neighborhood spot with a selection of drinks and a small menu of light bites. Owner Bev Lascina says it will open soon.
Soma Sweets, South Orange
A new ice cream parlor and candy store has opened in downtown South Orange. It boasts a wide selection of ice cream and both retro and trendy candies.
Roast’d, Montclair
This Fort Lee-based coffee shop is expanding to Montclair. It’s known for its fresh coffee—the beans are roasted right in the store. An opening date has not yet been set.
Closings
The Hudson Rose, Nutley
After a memorable run serving the Nutley community, The Hudson Rose, part of GAC Hospitality, will be shuttering the restaurant in its current form in order to make room for “something fresh, exciting, and just a little bit saucy.” The restaurant’s team, celebrated for its inventive menus and standout hospitality, will transition the space and plan to unveil a brand-new concept later this summer; chef Andrew Riccatelli and general manager Eric Binder have been working behind the scenes on fresh ideas for months. The restaurant’s private event space, the Harlow Room, which hosts up to 200 people, will continue in its current form. Guests are encouraged to visit The Hudson Rose until July 26, for one last toast to the drinks, dishes and vibes that made it a neighborhood favorite. The Hudson Rose’s social accounts will share information about last-chance specials and wine pricings.
