John Gary Mason, 53, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away at his home on Monday, July 7th, 2025.
John was born April 10th, 1972 in Austin, Minnesota to Gary and Nancy (Underhill) Mason.
John graduated from Austin High School in 1990. He spent his life as a laborer, with a range of different jobs from railroads to landscaping.
John was an lifelong hockey fan and grew up playing the game. He was a die-hard Minnesota North-Stars and Wild fan. John made sure that he could watch every game and follow along with the action.
When he wasn’t watching hockey, his love for fishing and the outdoors shined bright. He was an avid fisherman, and loved catching walleyes and muskies the most. He enjoyed fishing in Northern Minnesota and Canada with his dad and best friend. When the temperatures dropped, you could be sure to find him out ice-fishing. His collection of gear could rival some professionals, and no type of fishing was off-limits.
John was a kind and caring soul, and would do anything for anyone. He always made sure everyone he loved was taken care of. He supported the love of his life, Suzie, in all aspects of their lives, and they were inseparable.
John is survived by his fiancé Suzie Miller, step-son Walker Morgan, mother Nancy Mason, brothers Mark (Gina) Mason and Gary “Deano” Mason, nephews Michael (Jessie) Mason, Jacob (Summer) Mason, and Conner Mason, uncle Frank Mason, aunt Rhonda Gautschi, uncle Dean Underhill, cousins Kimberly, Christie, Cheryl, Ryan, Dana, Whitney, Ryanne, as well as many great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father Gary Earl Mason, mother-in-law Chu Ok Miller, father-in-law Eddie Lee Miller grandparents Dean and Gladys Underhill, Jesse J Mason, and Lillie Mason.
A celebration of John’s life will be held from 2:30-4:30pm on Friday, July 25th at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary.
Friends and family will be hosting a gathering at the Eagles club following the service. Food will be provided.
