Renae Aileen (Switzer) Kasel, born October 6, 1960, in Elkton, Minnesota, to Dale and Aileen (Shaw) Switzer, was called home to be with the Lord, passing peacefully after a short battle with cancer, with her devoted husband by her side, on Sunday, June 22, 2025.
Renae was the ninth of ten children. She met the love of her life, Ron, during their freshman year of high school at a football game — a moment that marked the beginning of a lifelong partnership built on love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Together, they created a fulfilling life and raised three incredible children who became the center of Renae’s world. Every sacrifice she made, every lesson she taught, and every act of care was offered with a heart full of love, shaping a family rooted in deep connection and enduring strength. Their grown children stand as a living testament to the bond Renae and Ron shared and the life they built together.
A devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and loyal friend, Renae was truly the heart of her home and the soul of her family. She took great pride in maintaining a neat and welcoming home. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she treasured every moment with them—cherishing their laughter, their hugs, and the immeasurable joy they brought into her world. With quiet strength, a creative spirit, and deep compassion, Renae left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Renae graduated from Southland High School in Adams, MN, in 1979. That same year, she completed a certificate from the Art Instruction School, later going on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Retail Merchandising and Interior Design from Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC). Her creativity and keen eye for design shaped a successful career at Pane Furniture, Drury’s, and Gerhardt’s Kitchen and Bath. Whether it was a well placed piece of furniture, the perfect paint color, or just the right kitchen sink or bathroom fixture, her signature touch made spaces feel warm, welcoming and unmistakably like home.
A woman of unwavering faith and gentle wisdom, Renae lived with grace and purpose. Her strength was matched by her kindness. She brought warmth and sincerity to every interaction, offering comfort and encouragement in equal measure. Her presence will be missed in a thousand ways, but her spirit lives on in every home she left her creative touch in and in every heart she graced with her warmth, kindness, and love.
Renae was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Jennifer; brothers, Keith and Dennis Switzer; sister, Mary Jane Mulholland; and half-brother, Gerald Shaw.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Ronald Kasel of Kasson, MN; her children, Jamie (Jason) Golde of Shakopee, MN, Jesse (Amanda) Kasel of Kasson, MN, and Jon Kasel of Kasson, MN; and seven treasured grandchildren: Valery Horsman, Madelyn Golde, Mason Kasel, William Golde, Wyatt Kasel, Benjamin Kasel, and Jack Kasel. She is also survived by her siblings: Janice (Roger) Helle of Taylor, WI; Diane (Ron) Harvey of Stewartville, MN; Evonne Hutchens of Eau Claire, WI; Greg (Peggy) Switzer of Mondovi, WI; and Brad Switzer of Fountain City, WI; as well as her in-laws, Daniel and Barbara Kasel of Adams, MN; and many dear nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Mayo Clinic Palliative Care team, Visiting Angels, Mayo Hospice, and the Mayo Oncology team for their extraordinary care and compassion.
