An Austin man charged with multiple counts of felony arson for an incident that took place just over a year ago has been sentenced to probation with credit for time served.
Zachary Robert Peach, 27, was sentenced to five years supervised probation with 77 days credit for time served for felony second degree arson, one of three felony arson charges he faced.
The remaining two were dismissed.
Peach must now follow several conditions. Failure to do so could result in 18 months in prison.
According to the court complaint, Peach was arrested on May 30, 2024, after he was connected to a garage fire in the 100 block of Second Street SW in Austin with flames ultimately damaging a nearby home as well as having encroached on apartments located in the 300 block of Oakland Avenue West.
A witness at the scene told Austin Police officers that she had witnessed a younger man coming out of the garage prior to the fire and video footage also revealed the same man walking between the house and garage.
By the time the Austin Fire Department arrived the garage was fully engulfed.
Meanwhile, police had been called to a report of an individual throwing rocks at a bank. Though the subject had left by the time police arrived, video footage showed it to be the same man from the garage fire and identified as Peach.
Officers eventually tracked Peach to a gaming store downtown, however, Peach fled when he saw officers, but was eventually taken into custody hiding behind another business’s furnace unit.
