Scott Alan Barnett, age 67, of Rochester, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Mayo Clinic Hospital Rochester, Methodist Campus after a courageous ten-month fight with Myelodysplastic Syndrome. Scott was born January 28, 1958, in Two Harbors, Minnesota, to Donald and Cleo (Carmack) Barnett. He attended Austin High School and later received his GED. After high school, he began working at the Owatonna Canning Company where he met his wife, Amy. During his children’s early years, he dedicated himself to being a stay-at-home dad. He then worked in the body shop at Lupient Viking in Rochester, Minnesota. Scott’s passion for working on cars made his time at Viking deeply enjoyable. He continued his education at Riverland Community College earning his CDL certificate and worked as a truck driver until his retirement. In retirement, he devoted his time caring for his grandchildren and enjoying family vacations. Scott had a deep love for the outdoors, finding joy in hiking, fishing, and camping. He found immense joy in playing with his grandchildren and held a deep affection for his dogs, Bree and Stella. Scott’s lighthearted nature and playful spirit brought happiness to all those around him.

 

Survivors include his mother, Cleo Barnett; wife, Amy Barnett; children, Matthew (Stephanie) Barnett, James Barnett, Carie (Josh) Archer; grandchildren, Dietrich Barnett, Nora Barnett, Matthew Archer, and Jacob Archer; brothers, Steven Barnett, Sam (Gail) Barnett, Stacy Barnett; nephews, Ryan Barnett (fiancé, Charissa), Ross (Tina) Barnett, Jacob (Jessica) Freese, John Freese, Jesse (Shavaun) Barnett; and nieces, Corinna (Justin) Compton, Jamie (Aaron) Ofsthun. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Barnett; and sister, SueAnn Freese.

 

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses in the BMT and ICU units at Mayo Clinic Methodist Hospital.

 

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Worlein-Hoff Funeral Home in Austin. The visitation will take place from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 31, at Worlein-Hoff Funeral Home in Austin and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes of Austin are assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
