We have some tragic news to report out of the TV world as it has been revealed that Michelle Trachtenberg has died.
According to The New York Post, the veteran TV star’s body was found by her mother at around 8 a.m. on Wednesday in New York.
A cause of death has not been determined, but the outlet’s sources claim the 39-year-old recently underwent a liver transplant.
Trachtenberg’s death is not believed to be suspicious.
The actress has had many roles in prominent projects during her time in the spotlight.
Her early credits include Law & Order, Clarissa Explains It All, All My Children, Meego, and Figure It Out.
Michelle Trachtenberg’s big break came in the form of the 1996 movie Harriet the Spy.
Michelle Trachtenberg Had Many Scene-Stealing Roles
The role opened the door for her to join Buffy the Vampire Slayer during its fifth season as Dawn Summers, the younger sister of the titular slayer.
Although Dawn was initially introduced as a key, having not existed before the season, Trachtenberg remained on the show as a series regular until its 2003 series finale.
She followed that up with Euro Trip on the big screen, a raunchy comedy about a group of friends embarking on a European trip.
In 2007, Trachtenberg joined the cast of The CW’s Gossip Girl as Georgina Sparks, a role she recurred in throughout the show’s entire six-season run.
Trachtenberg even appeared in the second season of the reboot in the same role, which showcased Georgina still pulling strings and causing problems for everyone in her inner circle.
Trachtenberg was one of many Buffy the Vampire Slayer alums to speak out to speak out about series’ co-creator Joss Whedon’s conduct in 2021.
A sequel to the 1996-2003 drama series was recently confirmed, with Sarah Michelle Gellar on board to recur.
It’s unclear at this stage whether Trachtenberg was in negotiations for the follow-up.
No details have been revealed beyond the fact that Gellar stated it would only come to fruition if she and the creative forces land on an idea befitting the franchise.
Fans Sounded the Alarm over Michelle’s Recent Instagram Posts
Despite scaling her movie and TV commitments back in recent years, Trachtenberg has kept fans up to speed on her life with her social media accounts, particularly Instagram.
However, fans recently sounded the alarm over photos of the Trachtenberg looking frail, which very well could have stemmed from complications from the reported liver transplant.
The Gossip Girl reboot serves as Trachtenberg’s final TV credit.
