Allen Eugene McDowell, 78
Allen Eugene McDowell, age 78, of Austin, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at the Cedars of Austin.
Allen was born January 3, 1947 in Preston, Minnesota to Harold and Florence (Long) McDowell. He attended school in Preston, moved to Austin, attended Ellis Middle School and graduated from Austin High School in 1965.
Allen enlisted in the United States Army in 1968 and served during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1971.
Allen attended Austin Junior College (now Riverland) then went to work for Hormel Foods for several years. He then attended Truck Driving School and drove truck for Midwest Coast for a few years. Finally, Allen returned to Hormel and worked there until his retirement.
Allen enjoyed the Drum & Bugle Corps., driving semi, and telling stories.
He is survived by his two sons, Craig and Scott; his brother, Paul (Nancy).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Florence; his brother, Charles.
A graveside service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, May 30, 2025 at Grandview Cemetery with the Reverend Dale Christiansen officiating. Military rites will be provided by American Legion Post #91 and Olaf B. Damm V.F.W. Post #1216.
