Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will be at State Theatre New Jersey January 11, 2020
Don’t miss London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) live in concert at the State Theatre! Founded by Sir Thomas Beecham, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) has been at the forefront of music-making in the UK for more than seven decades. This fantastic evening of music will feature the formidable pianist Khatia Buniatishvili, bringing her talents to an equally formidable Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 2.
Led by Conductor Mark Wigglesworth, the program opens with Walton’s Portsmouth Point Overture, a musical picture-postcard of the seaside town that charmingly evokes the frivolity and carefreeness of a day at the beach. Acclaimed international concert pianist Khatia Buniatishvili follows with a performance of Liszt’s Piano Concerto No.2, a unique and fantastical work that creates worlds of light and shade in the relationships between the piano, woodwind, and strings. Closing the concert is Sibelius’ Symphony No.2, a piece that defined Sibelius’ impact on his home country of Finland’s musical voice and identity.
